Avocado should be included in your diet, and
here’s Why
Something is
missing from my foodie life when avocados don’t appear in my meals. Eating one or even half an avocado provides many wonderful
health benefits for nutrition, weight loss & maintenance - not to mention
taste!
These last few weeks have seen avocado shortages in the market in LA.
I scavenged
the avocado display on the weekend, only to find several abundant overripe
(squashed) avocados.
My face became sad😞- I already went one day without an avocado.
What will become of me?
Avocado is a
staple in my home; the whole family loves it.
I love that a simple avocado can be added to almost any
meal.
It makes my meals
complete.

Here are four
reasons why you should embrace avocados and relish their benefits.
One: It helps you maintain a healthy body weight
I had to start
with this key benefit because it’s what most of us strive to achieve.
Avocado is not the quick fix for weight
I had to start with this key benefit because it’s what most of us strive to achieve.
Avocado is not the quick fix for weight management
because you should also have a balanced, nutrient-rich diet.
Although avocados are high in calories, they make up for it by being jam-packed with many different nutrients, including fiber and healthy fat, which help to promote satiety.
Fibrous-rich foods, such as fruits and vegetables, help
to support better dietary habits and aid in weight loss and management.
People who generally eat more fiber naturally have a healthier body weight compared to
those who do not eat enough.
Several studies prove that eating avocado can assist
your weight loss goals and decrease abdominal fat.
Although most of these studies have been conducted
through the Hass avocado board and may influence outcomes, eating foods rich in
dietary fiber can help you feel fuller for longer.
So, including some avocado in your meals makes sense -
and is something you should consider doing daily.
Two: It can help you attain a healthy gut
You get a huge 14 grams of fiber in every avocado, which is key to supporting a healthy gut and helping to keep those good gut guys thriving.
In one study, 163 adults who were overweight ate 175
grams of avocado every day for a total of 12 weeks.
When the study was finished, poop was taken from each individual and assessed.
They found that each person had lower fecal bile acid concentrations and increased bacterial diversity compared to the group that did not have avocado.
When you have many more bile acid concentrations in your gut, that increase
inflammation within your intestine and can produce microbes with negative
outcomes - one of them being colon cancer.
Those individuals who ate avocado also experienced more
production of short-chain fatty acids.
Short-chain fatty acids help to protect us from diseases such as colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
But avocado isn’t the only fruit you can eat to help promote a healthy gut.
All fiber foods that include fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds can enhance your gut health.
It’s important to view avocados as a healthy add-on to your diet and add many other nutrient-rich foods.
In that way, you can help your gut produce a variety of
healthy gut bacteria, which will continually support a healthy, disease-free
life.
Three: it helps
protect you from inflammation
Avocado contains lots of fiber to keep your gut healthy and has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Since avocado contains vitamin C, E, carotenoid and phenolic compounds, it can provide neuroprotective and cardioprotective benefits.
Certain carotenoids within avocados can help protect us against oxidative damage associated with chronic disease.
A small study conducted on 45 people who ate avocado daily had an increase in the levels of carotenoid lutein, as opposed to those who ate a typical westernised diet without any avocado whatsoever.
People who don’t eat avocados miss out on a lot of deliciousness!
A carotenoid-rich diet has many benefits, including
better cognitive functioning and improved heart health.
Four: It helps you attain better heart health
Fiber, vitamins, healthy fats and minerals all
play an important part in keeping your heart healthy — which is abundant in
avocados.
Avocados increase the levels of good cholesterol while, at the same time, decreasing the levels of oxidised LDL, which is a type of cholesterol that’s closely linked to the build-up of plaque along the artery walls.
In addition to this, avocados are high in magnesium and potassium, which are also beneficial for attaining normal blood pressure. When you keep your blood pressure in check, you decrease your risk of heart disease.
Key takeaways
Avocados can be used in sweet and savoury dishes, from adding them to your smoothies for a more creamy texture to simply chopping half into your salads.
There are so many creative ways you can use avocados, and
although they do turn brown quite quickly - storing them in the fridge with a
bit of lemon juice on top helps.
Conclusion :
I urge you to embrace avocados for your health and their deliciousness factor.
Although they provide many wonderful health benefits, add a rainbow of fruits and vegetables alongside your avocado.
Various nutrient options are key to better health and
weight control.
